How the assessment works

Most of the assessment happens at home. From booking to diagnosis typically takes 20 working days.

  1. Call or send an enquiry

We answer your questions and book your first appointment, available the same week. No GP referral is needed.

  2. Cognitive examination

A mental health nurse carries out a cognitive examination by video at home, or face-to-face at our Waterloo clinic for an additional fee.

  3. Tests

A blood sample is taken at your chosen address, and you have a brain scan at one of over 200 centres across the UK. You also wear a 24-hour heart rhythm monitor.

  4. Consultant appointment

Once your results are back, a consultant old age psychiatrist reviews everything with you and confirms your diagnosis, by video or face-to-face.

  5. Your report

You receive a written report with your diagnosis and care plan. With your consent, we send it to your GP.

Private assessment alongside the NHS

A private assessment is a different route to a diagnosis. It does not replace your GP or the NHS.

With your consent, we send your report, diagnosis and care plan to your GP, so your care can continue through the NHS or privately.

NHS memory assessment services are free to use, and waiting times vary by area.
